A Response To: “Yes, I’m Gay and Have a Relationship with God”
Yesterday on “X,” Heidi Briones celebrated a union with her lesbian partner. I refuse to call it a marriage. Marriage is only between a man and a woman. As expected, the post drew praise and condemnation from all sorts of users. And this massive response, particularly the responses against her lifestyle, prompted her to write an article titled, “Yes, I’m Gay and Have a Relationship with God.” You can read the article at her website.
While there are many things wrong with the article, there are a few things I would like to point out and focus on.
First, Heidi makes the claim that nobody would want to spend eternity with a God who doesn’t accept them.
Who’d want to spend eternity with a God who rejects them over something as innate, natural, and arbitrary as homosexuality?
She calls homosexuality innate and natural. However, this flies directly in the face of Scripture. Romans 1:26 clearly states that the passions are dishonorable that they give up their natural relations that are contrary to nature to be with other women. Briones’ argument that homosexuality is natural is firmly rejected by the Creator. She goes on to claim that because God isn’t ignorant He knows that some people will “always be gay.”
She makes the assumption that homosexuality is innate and natural and cannot be changed. She has believed the lie of “Sexual Identity.” Your sexual desires are not your identity. That is to reduce humanity to its most base instincts. To build an identity around homosexuality and sexual identity is a very shallow view, and incorrect view, of humanity.
But God certainly does know, and is not ignorant of the fact, that many people will choose to remain in their sin. Romans 1:28-32 tells us that these people will not acknowledge God and His commands. Instead, they will do what ought not to be done. They know what to do and know that the decree is that those who do not and continue to practice such wickedness deserve to die, yet they give approval to it. So God most certainly knows that people will remain in their wicked lifestyles and will punish them for it.
Briones also shows that she does not know God, much less does she have a relationship with Him.
I believe in a God of love. That’s the only God I’d eternity with. If He demanded I repent for marrying my wife, I’d walk away. Thankfully, I don’t believe that’s who He is.
Is God love? Absolutely (1 John 4:8). But to only recognize the love of God is to completely ignore His other attributes. God is also holy and righteous. He is just. He has wrath. You cannot separate these attributes and only look at the love of God as if He just overlooks sin. He doesn’t. Further, it truly does not matter who she believes God is. What matters is who God actually is.
Unfortunately for Heidi, without repentance she will be punished for her rejection of God’s truth in favor of “her truth.” May we all pray for those who claim LGBTQ as their identity that they will repent and turn from their sin and find hope in Jesus Christ.
