The Word Became Flesh: Merry Christmas
Another year is almost over. As we prepare to celebrate Christmas, have you paused to reflect on what it truly means? It is a season of giving, joy, and peace. Yet, amidst the festivities, it’s easy to lose sight of the profound truth at the heart of this celebration: Jesus is the reason for the season.
When we celebrate Christmas, we are celebrating the Word becoming flesh to dwell among us (John 1:14, ESV). This is not just a seasonal sentiment but a transformative reality that deserves our attention and awe.
Imagine this: God, the Creator of the universe, loved us so much that He came to live a perfect life and die on the cross for us. He faced trials, tribulations, and rejection beyond what we could ever imagine. As Isaiah 53:3-4 reminds us, “He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief” (ESV). Yet, in His great love, He chose to endure it all for us.
What should keep us in awe of Him—not just at Christmas but throughout the entire year—is that He didn’t have to do this. God owed us nothing. We did not deserve His grace. But He is gracious, loving, merciful, and kind. Through Jesus, He made a way to pay our debt—something we could never do ourselves.
That, indeed, is the joy of Christmas.
So this season, let us gather with family and friends. Let us sing and be merry. But as we celebrate, let us also take time to reflect on the true reason for it all: the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To Him, and Him alone, be all glory forever and ever.
So, how will you keep Christ at the center of your celebrations this year?
